Ballina Shire Concert Band has been performing for Ballina Shire community on a continuous basis since 1883 and it is possibly the longest-serving band in Australia. Our band consists of over 25 musicians who enjoy performing on the third Sunday of the month at the East Ballina Lions Club Markets, Canal Rd. We perform a variety of music, such as movie theme music, contemporary styles and marches, where the community can enjoy a walk around the markets and breakfast while listening to enjoyable popular tunes. We’ve recently commenced rehearsals again after the health pandemic restrictions and have moved next door to a larger hall to accommodate social distancing requirements. Rehearsals are held every Wednesday evening from 7.30 pm and we are always looking for new competent players to join us. We are particularly keen to see new trombone, trumpet and euphonium players. Our musical director and conductor, Laurie, is always keen to expand our repertoire and we try new arrangements at most rehearsals.

The band supports community events including Anzac Day and Remembrance Day, however, our major event is our annual Christmas Concert. Here we combine with one of Ballina's finest singers, tenor Dean Doyle to present a mixture of concert band arrangements plus all the Christmas favourites. We also join Dean when he performs his annual show, Last Night of the Proms.

We hold an annual band collaboration day with the Lismore Concert Band and also regularly liaise with band directors from local schools to explore further collaborations. School students are welcome to join us any Wednesday night to extend their musical experience. If you would like more information about the band, interested in coming to listen, or are a competent musician and want to come to play on Wednesday nights, please register your interest first by contacting Laurie on 02 6628 2716 or message us on Facebook
