Ballina Shire Concert Band has been performing for the people of Ballina Shire on a continuous basis since 1883 and it is possibly the longest serving band in Australia.

It's first public performance was on board the MV Florrie a vessel which was anchored on the Richmond River in 1884.Rehearsals are held every Wednesday evening from 7.15pm to 9.15pm and new players are always welcome.

There is an extensive music library available and the bandmaster is keen to try new arrangements every rehearsal. Playing out is popular with band members and we can be heard on the third Sunday of the month at the Ballina Markets where the public can enjoy breakfast while listening to enjoyable popular tunes.

Our major fund-raiser for the year is our Christmas Concert where we combine with one of Ballina's finest singers, tenor Dean Doyle to present a mixture of concert band arrangements plus all the Christmas favourites. We also join Dean when he performs his show ?Last Night of the Proms? at various venues.

We have assisted local community events such as "Music on a Sunday Afternoon" for the Wollongbar Progress Association and recently played for the closure of Ballina High School. During May 2017 we supplied the music for a major Rotary Convention in Ballina where over 400 Rotarians were in attendance.

The band supports community events including Anzac Day and Remembrance Day. We also travel outside the shire to participate in the Great Eastern Fly-In at Evans Head and Beef week in Casino. We regularly liaise with band directors from local schools and their students are welcome to join us any Wednesday night to extend their musical experience. Several students have gone on to become professional musicians following this.
